FAQs

(Frequently Asked Questions)

  • A topical numbing cream is used before and during the procedure, so for most people any discomfort is non-existent to minimal. Everyone has a different threshold of pain, but most people are pleasantly surprised to find it a very tolerable experience. Cold packs can be used to soothe any discomfort after the numbing cream wears off or to control any swelling.

  • Yes. All procedures are performed using disposable supplies and follow strict sanitation and sterilization guidelines as required by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and OSHA regulations, as well as the Sarasota County Department of Health.

  • It depends very much on the individual since color retention varies by skin type and lifestyle issues. The enhancement will gradually fade somewhat over a period of time. The full color will generally last a year or two. Most people opt to have a touch-up to refresh the color a year or two after the initial procedure. Many lifestyle factors can influence the longevity of the permanent makeup such as sun exposure, hormones, skincare products, pool chlorine, medications, hydration of the skin, etc.

  • There are no limits to your activities following the procedure. It is okay to drive yourself home right after your appointment. You may look like you’ve been crying. Typically, the pigment in the area where the color has been applied will be darker and heavier for the first day or two. The color will then adjust to the intended shade. There are care instructions to follow afterward, and it is recommended that you not apply any commercial cosmetics to the affected area for a period of four days to allow time for healing and to avoid infection. Any time missed from work or activities would be an elective decision for aesthetic reasons.

  • Medical history forms need to be completed – see separate tab. Any blood-thinning medications or supplements, such as aspirin or alcohol, need to be discontinued prior to the procedure. The permanent makeup needs to be applied to clean skin, so makeup should not be worn to your appointment. You can bring your makeup to show your color choices, or photos are a good communication tool.

  • There is a schedule of fees for maintenance touch-ups for Sue’s clients, and there is a separate schedule for touch-up work that is initially done by someone else. This can be evaluated on an individual basis.

  • Including the time for consultation, evaluation and for the numbing cream to take effect, you should allow 2½ - 3 hours for eyebrows, 1 ½ - 2 hours for upper liner, and an hour for lower liners. Times can vary by individual needs.

  • The medical history and consent information will be reviewed. The consultation will include a review of your expectations and discussion about how permanent makeup can enhance your appearance. Eyeliner, for example, can be a fine line to enhance your lashes, or it can be heavier, for more drama. Using special pencils on your eyebrows, Sue can create your own unique look visually so that you can approve the enhancement before the pigment inks are infused into your skin. This ensures the finished result is what you want. Sue will identify the micro-pigmentation shades that work with your hair, skin, and eye color. The available inks include many warm, cool and neutral tones as well as subtle colors to blend with white/gray hair. A follow-up session is included in the original fees. This generally takes place four weeks after the initial procedure, and is the opportunity to refine the enhancement.

  • To avoid any scabbing or infection, the instructions for the day of any procedure include cleansing and applying an ointment to the area every two hours, and for the next three days that process only needs to be done twice a day. Aftercare instructions are provided.

  • No. The skin on the face is more delicate than other areas, so the pigments can’t go as deep. That is why a refreshing touch-up is commonly needed after a period of time.

  • Permanent makeup enhances your natural beauty. It is a great convenience for everyday living and, because it is waterproof, it is great for athletes and sports enthusiasts – no smearing or smudging. It can be invaluable for people with mobility/dexterity or eyesight issues, and for individuals who experience environmental allergies or allergies to commercial makeup. It is also wonderful for people experiencing hair loss. Permanent makeup can give you a lovely, natural look, or you can add commercial cosmetics.
